I did some consolidating where Microsoft got a bit too wordy for my taste.

Internet Explorer 4 PC

  • 4.0 supported Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98 (default browser), Windows NT 3.x, and Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 3 or later).
  • Initially Windows 95 or above, 16MB of RAM, 11MB of disk space (minimum for install)

Mac:

  • Macintosh with 68030 or higher processor
  • System 7.1 or higher
  • 8 MB of RAM with virtual memory on (12MB recommended)
  • 12 MB of hard disk space for IE4 and 8.5 MB of hard disk space for Java VM.
  • Open Transport 1.1.1 or higher or MacTCP 2.0.6 or, Config PPP or similar PPP connection software (Control Panel) with PPP (Extension).
  • IE 4.5 did not support 68k Macs.

IE 5 was the default browser on later versions of Windows 98. IE 5.5 was the default version on Windows ME.

Windows 2000 was the last OS to support IE 5.0.

IE 5.5 SP2 is the last IE that would run on Windows 95.

IE 5.x was the last version that would run on a Mac, with 5.18 being the last for the OS 9-and-lower versions and 5.23 being the last for OS X.

Internet Explorer 6 IE 6 is default browser shipped with Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, and was also made available for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows Me, and Windows 2000. IE6 SP1 is the last version of Internet Explorer available for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows Me, and Windows 2000. Although Internet Explorer 6 was superseded by Internet Explorer 7 in October 2006, Microsoft still supports it in Windows XP SP3.
